Mrs. Wells 7th and 8th Grade Math Orientation Guide
When the bell rings for class to begin, sit in your assigned seat, open your notebook or binder to your bell ringer section and start the review problems, as I take attendance. The class usually runs as follows:
1. Bell Ringers (Review questions that students must do as they sit down at the very beginning of class. Bell ringers are part of their class participation grade.
2. Review homework
3. Presentation/practice of new material
4. Projects/activities will also be part of this mathematics course
5. Journals will be assigned at the beginning of every week and they will be due the last day of that week.
1. Pencils/Pens/Erasers
2. A notebook and a two folders or a binder with dividers
3. Scientific Calculator (Texas Instruments; TI-30XA) I have ten calculators and students can use them on a first come first serve basis.
4. All work must be kept in an orderly format.
1. Covered at all times
2. Students need to bring their textbook to class everyday
1. All assignments must be done on time.
2. Homework will be checked at the beginning of class and a 4, 1, or 0 will be given based on the completion of homework.
3. After going over homework, students will turn in their homework for another grade 0 or a 1 on correctness.
4. Three missed assignments will result in after school detention.
1. You will be notified at least one day in advance of any exam.
2. We will review a day in advance for any exam.
3. Pop quizzes may be given at my discretion.
I will make every effort to help you understand the math that we are doing while you are in class. If you feel that you need extra help, please see me and I will be happy to set up a time to meet with you.
Regular classroom attendance is essential for success. When you are absent, it is your responsibility to find out what notes we did, as well as what homework assignment was given. If you know ahead of time that you will not be in class, let me know and I will provide you with your notes and homework.
1. Come to class on time (3 lates = 1 After School Detention)
2. Follow directions (any work other than math seen during this time will be taken and will not be returned)
3. Remain seated unless otherwise directed (throw away trash at the end of the period; sharpen pencils before class begins, not during a lesson.)
4. Raise your hand and wait to be called upon
5. Keep hands, feet and other objects to oneself
6. Foul language and mistreatment of others will not be tolerated
7. Respect each other and everyone’s right to learn
8. Late homework will not be accepted
9. Late projects will result in a 20-point deduction each day past the due date.
I have read and understood the above guidelines for math with Mrs. Wells this year.
