MIDDLE SCHOOL
RESOURCE ROOM
DIRECT / INDIRECT CONSULTATION TEACHER
The Resource
Room is intended to assist and serve students who have been
identified through the
CSE with
learning problems. Its primary services are to
assist these students with
successfully completing their regular education
classes/requirements
while at the same time, continue to remediate within
their deficit areas. This
work is designed to facilitate, encourage and assist
the student in meeting their Individualized
Education Plan (IEP) goals.
In addition, it is
commonplace that tasks also occurring within the
Resource Room setting
are pre-teaching, reviewing curriculum content or
administering test
accommodations.
Resource Room services are provided in small groups of no
more than five
students that meet
daily. It is also possible that the Resource Room
teacher
may"push-in" to an
academic class to work with the regular education
teacher in any of the
four core academic areas. ELA and Math are courses
lined up for the
2007-2008 academic year at the Middle School level. Indirect
consultant services are provided through
frequent partnerships and alliances
between the regular education teachers and the
special educator.
Resource Room students are expected to arrive
to class on time, with their
work, books and supplies. The small group setting
encourages the students
to
work to their maximum potential while completing their school work
and
studying for
tests. A goal for all would be to learn to express their needs by
advocating
for themselves in a
positive and independent manner.
With the active participation of all involved: the student,
parent/guardian,
regular education teacher and
the special educator, our students will achieve
success. They will continue through high school
and attend college or learn a
trade. Their
success will be and is our success.
