The Mission of Our Elementary Libraries

It is the mission of our elementary libraries to teach and reinforce English Language Arts skills, help students use and locate information, encourage reading for enjoyment, and support the classroom curriculum.

LIBRARY NEWS!

In the NCCS elementary library classes, students are listening to various stories.  Here are some of the stories our elementary grades are listening to and reading right now:

5th graders - The Best School Year Ever by Barbara Robinson.

4th graders - Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl

3rd graders - Class Clown by JoHanna Hurwitz

K-2 students - Various winter stories such as The Mitten by Jan Brett, The Missing Mitten Mystery by Steven Kellogg and Let's Find Out About Winter by Martha and Charles Schapp.

In each library class, students listen to stories like the ones listed above and respond to the literature by either taking notes, answering questions verbally, drawing pictures, or writing answers to story questions.

BOOK TALKS!

What is a Book Talk?

One way students in our library classes respond to the books they read from the library is to participate in a book talk.  A book talk is a student's opportunity to tell their classmates about the library book they read at home.  Each book talk consists of a summary of the book as well as the student's opinion of the book.  Book talks encourage students to read for fun!
