11th Grade American History

& Government

(Curriculum Outline & Grading Criteria)

The New York Board of Regents has mandated a one-year course of study in US History & Government.  Beyond knowing the structure and function of government, you will focus on the basic principles and cultural heritage upon which the American nation is founded. This will enable you to develop a stronger commitment to democratic values.

The 11th grade program is a foundation for the 12th grade course "Participation In Government", which makes the assumption that students will have a fairly sound understanding of the basic structure, function and operations of the American Government.

At the end of the school year you must take and pass in order to graduate a Regents in US History & Government.  Review books will be purchased in the Fall at a cost of approximately $10.  A score of 65 is passing (although the school board is currently accepting 55), 85 and over indicates that a student has developed a degree of mastery in the subject matter.  You must also pass the class in order to graduate.
