PHYSICAL EDUCATION

        Physical Education is based upon acquisition of knowledge and skills as a foundation for engagin in physical activity.  The mission of physical education is to enable all students to sustain regular, lifelong physical activity as a foundation for a healthy, productive and fulfilling life.

        Physical education is a sequential educational program based on physical activities undertaken in an active, caring, supportive and non-threatening atmosphere in which every student is challenged and successful.  Students with disabilities are provided with a learning environment that is modified, when necessary, to allow for maximum participation.

        The National Association for sport and physical education(NASPE) content standards will be used as a basis for our physical education program.  These standards state that a physically educated person:

         Demonstrate competency in many movement forms and proficiency in a few moment forms.

         Applies movement concepts and principles to to learning and development of motor skills.

         Exhibits a physically active life style.

         Achieves and maintains healthy-enhancing level of physical fitness.

         Demonstrates responsible personal and social behavior and physical activity settings.

         Demonstrates understanding and respect for differences among people in physical activity settings.

         Understands that physical activity provides opportuniities for enjoyment, challenge, self-expression and

          social interaction.
