When working with watercolor, it is important to keep a few key points in mind.

It is usually best to start with larger areas first.  Also, using a large brush whenever possible keeps the colors from looking blotchy and uneven.

If you are working on a large area and you want the colors to look smooth and even, it is a good idea to wet the paper.

Start with light colors whenever possible.  It is easier to paint over light colors with dark paint than it is to paint around dark areas with light paint.

Finally, do the details last.  Use a small brush and wait until the paper is completely dry or your colors will bleed and it will ruin your life.     :o)
