Based on largely on ideas and concepts rather than merely
on execution and realism.
Ansel Adams
Greatest and most famous nature photographer of the
twentieth century.
Almost always worked in black and white.


Jackson Pollock
American painter and leader of the Action Painters, so
named because of the energy exerted in the creation of their paintings.
Nicknamed “Jack the Dripper.”
Created abstract paintings by dripping paint from a stick
or open paint can onto a large canvas.
Died in an automobile accident when he was 44 years old.

Pablo Picasso
Most
important and influential artist of the twentieth century.
Known for his Blue Period and his Rose Period.
Created the mural
Tried to bridge the gap between art and “non-art” by making
artwork from nontraditional materials.
One of the pioneers of Cubism—a style of painting which
should one scene from a variety of angles.
Was skilled in drawing, painting, sculpting and ceramics.

Leader of the Pop Art movement which focused on
