Students need a spiral bound sketchbook (at least 8 by 11 or similar size), pencils and erasers. All other media is supplied by the school. The average is 50% project, 30% homework, and 20% TE (class behavior, attendance and effort).

ADVANCED ART 1

Prerequisite: Painting and Drawing

This course advances the work done in Painting and Drawing and introduces the student to new media such as color pencil, advanced watercolor techniques, and sculpture. Students will be creating a college level portfolio during this year. They may use last year's sketchbook but should purchase a large (at least 22" by 24") portfolio, in either vinyl or paper. These may be found at Michael's or on the internet at places such as www.enasco.com  (they tend to be less expensive on line.) There will be weekly graded sketchbook assignments and at least 1 or 2 graded projects per semester. Daily class attendance is very important as most work must be done in class and is part of each graded assignment. The average is 50% project, 30% homework, and 20% TE (class behavior, attendance and effort).

ADVANCED ART 2

Prerequisite: Advanced Art 1

This course is for the dedicated art student who wishes to further build skills and is an introduction to new skills such as glass cutting, pottery, jewelry and sculpture. Some supplies must be provided by the student depending on their area of interest. Students must be able to work independently on individual projects. Individual instruction and critique is given daily as well as class critiques. Each student is given projects depending on their area interest as well as artistic need. Emphasis is on producing a portfolio to present to art schools/colleges. Daily attendance is very important and is part of each graded assignment. A sketchbook is still required as are weekly assignments. The average is 50% project, 30% homework, and 20% TE (class behavior, attendance and effort).

ADVERTISING DESIGN

Prerequisite: Painting and Drawing

This course introduces the student to the concepts of graphic design and its use in advertising. Advertising is a multi-billion dollar industry in New York State and students will learn basics of creating posters, magazine ads, brochures-shirt design as well as pure design projects. Students will be introduced to computer art programs Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign. Students will also learn basic digital photography as well as basic computer skills. This course is limited in students accepted, so Seniors will receive first priority for placement. Students should have some type of storage equipment such as a flash drive (1GB is very good).
