NCCS High School teacher, Gretchen Morris discovered this grant funded
program during the spring of 2007. While participating in a
week-long summer session, she quickly phoned Lynn McCarthy to suggest
Lynn join the next session. At the beginning of the 2007-2008 school year, Gretchen and Lynn invited several teachers from both the high school and middle school. Through this grant/program, we teachers in the NCCS school district can use the LHEF resources at no cost. Period clothes, cookware, tents are all bundled and waiting to be used to help students "live history" instead of simply reading it. Gretchen Morris, Lynn McCarthy, Casey Greeno, Melody Trombley, Karen Jones and Al Hammel followed the path of John André and Benedict Arnold from Garrison, NY to Tappan. They camped in period clothes and tents, on the property of the DeWitt House where General George Washington stayed for the trial and execution of the British spy, John André. |
